John 3:16 & Sunrise Steve

John 3:16 & Sunrise Steve

How it all started, minding my own business!

It was a beautiful day in Roseville California, about noon, 75 degrees Fahrenheit, sunny, with a slight breeze blowing from the south.  I remember how the sun and breeze felt on my face, what a beautiful day to be alive.  I had the day off and decided toJohn3-16 run to the local home improvement store to grab some supplies for a project.  I jumped into the car and headed off on my mission to save our old backyard fire pit from an untimely demise.

That’s when it happened, about six minutes in, as I slowed to stop at the intersection of Sunrise and Douglas Blvd. I spotted him on the far corner to my left.  A well-intentioned, obviously devoted follower of the christian religion holding a sign that read “JOHN 3:16”.  I don’t know him but I’ll refer to him as Sunrise Steve.

For those who have never read it, let’s give it a read in a popular translation:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

(Taken out of context and mistranslated, the English words above do not correctly reflect the original Greek, and it is one of the most misused verses in scripture.  But, there are many.)
Steve Cares, so much he does not want you to perish in hell!

My immediate reaction was to feel for Steve, out there on the street corner trying to finish what our Lord and Savior already finished on the cross over two thousand year ago! Then I thought to myself “well, at least Steve is a christian who not only believes in a fiery torture chamber called ‘hell’ but cares enough about humanity to try and warn as many as he can”.

You see, most who believe what Steve believes are content to stand by and allow countless numbers of unsuspecting passersby to continue on a path that these devotees believe leads to eternal torment. Torment at the hands of their “loving” god. But, if they really did believe it, wouldn’t they be spending every waking moment warning those who Christ died to save!?!? At least Steve cares enough to spend some of his free time warning Rosevillites of their impending doom. Well, I give Steve credit for trying, but if he really does care, I should continue to see him on the corner every waking moment of the rest of the days of his life.  My guess is that he will eventually give up, either on God, or his un-saved fellows. His only other options are to come to a knowledge of the truth, or go mad. This false belief is simply too much of a burden for any mere mortal to bear and remain sane.

After all, God needs our help!

The truth is, the savior that Steve believes in needs human help.  That’s how great Steve’s savior is.  With the help of devoted followers like himself, a savior this weak may just eke out a few more souls from the vast majority bound for “hell”. Many of these devotees believe that they will show up at the gates of heaven and be rewarded while they proclaim to god; “look at all that we’ve done for you, and all these that we brought with us!” (uh, see Mathew 7:21, it doesn’t go well!)

Meanwhile, as their teaching goes, while these devotees are in heaven, billions more will writhe in agony in a cosmic torture chamber.  A place they refer to as ‘hell’, a quarantined area in some distant corner of God’s creation that these devoted do insist will exist for all eternity.  Yes, sin and misery will continue in hell forever.  In spite of this, somehow billions of Gods own children screaming, begging, and crying for mercy that will never come, will neither be a blight on said god’s character, nor will it convict such a god of being either a monster, who intended it such, as Calvinists believe, or a weak and pitiful god who could not accomplish his own desire to save all humanity, as most evangelicals believe. I don’t know enough about Steve to say which camp he is in but either way, it’s not a god most of humanity could embrace. This is evidenced by a world of unbelief, you see such teaching drives people away from God, it does not draw them to Him.

I had to stop and share with him the True gospel of our salvation!

What if there were a gospel that truly was good news?!?!  What if there were a distinctly different Gospel than the one Christ brought to Israel during his earthy ministry?

Well, there is!  It was given to the Apostle Paul by our risen Savior. I had to at least try and share this Gospel with Steve,  so, I doubled back and left some literature on Steve’s truck.   It speaks the truth about a gospel worth standing on a street corner to proclaim! Who knows, maybe Steve will read it.  I suspect that it will get thrown in the trash, there is a better than average chance that Steve is not secure enough in his own beliefs to challenge them by searching the scriptures to see if it these things are so!

Most victims of the teachings of orthodox churchianity are brainwashed by a system of deception. Sunrise Steve, and those who believe as he does know nothing about the successful savior that actually died on the Cross for all humanity. The One who finished the work of salvation over two thousand years ago! They cling to their own faith.  A faith in a mere potential savior, one who can only save those who cooperate.  How sad!

So, here are some verses for Sunrise Steve:
  • 1 Timothy 2:4 – Our Father in heaven desires that all mankind come to a saving faith.
  •  Isaiah 55:11 -Our Father will accomplish his desire!
  • Job 42:1-2 – Our Father’s will to accomplish his desires cannot be thwarted!
  • 1 Timothy 4:9-11 – Christ is the savior of ALL mankind.
  • John 19:28 – Christ finished the work of salvation on the cross.
  • John 1:29 – Christ took away the sin of the world.
  • Philippians 2:10 – Every person will accept Christ as Lord!
  • Genesis 12:2-3 – All the ends of the world shall turn back to God!
  • 2 Cor 5:19 – God, through Christ, reconciled you, not counting your sins against you!
  • Isaiah 2:2 – God’s house shall be established, and ALL nations will flow unto it!
  • John 1:9 – Christ is the true light, and will light everyone who has been born!
  • John 12:32 – Christ was lifted up, and will draw ALL MANKIND unto Himself.
  • Romans 11:30-36 – God will have mercy on ALL mankind!
  • Colossians 1:20 – Christ will reconcile ALL things to Himself, weather in heaven or on earth!
  • 1 John 2:2 – Christ is the propitiation for our sins and sins of the whole world!
  • Ephesians 1:10 – Our Father will gather together in one, ALL THINGS in Christ. – Heaven & Earth

Check these verses out, study to show yourself approved, an unashamed worker.  Rightly dividing the word of truth. Be like the Bereans who heard these things Paul taught and then searched the scriptures to see if they were true!

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him“. (Eph1:17)

It isn’t our faith that saves us, it is the faith of Christ that saves us.

I challenge you to read what I left on your truck, and I hope you visit this site!  I hope to see you spending a little more of your spare time next week spreading some real good news! Now, I must go back to saving my backyard fire pit from an untimely demise.

I guess I will wish you the best of luck, if you continue in your current beliefs, I am afraid that I must give you my condolences as your efforts to save a few more of souls from god’s celestial out door fire pit are not going to work out too well for you, or for those you are trying to reach. If your are right and the above verses are wrong, we are all in bad shape.

I, on the other hand, am quite confident that Christ and our Heavenly Father have it all covered.  All we need to do is share the true Gospel with the world so that they can rest in freedom and knowledge that God is good, Christ is a complete success, and it all works out well in the end.  Let me assure you that our God can be trusted to deal firmly with transgression, to make right all that is wrong in the world today, and still overcome human will and save every last person on earth, and every last being in heaven!

Now, if I’ve misrepresented your beliefs or position Steve, feel free to comment on this and straighten out any assumptions I’ve made about your beliefs.

Oh, and Steve.  I am not a universalist

P. S. Here is a more faithful English rendering of John 3:16:

For thus God loves the world, so that He gives His only-begotten Son, that everyone who is believing in Him should not be perishing, but may be having life eonian.”

Notice: This rendering make clear that God still “Loves” the world, not “loved”,  past tense, as the popular versions render it. Also notice that those who do not believe, perish (die), while those who do believe get life for the eons. (after they die)  Believers in this lifetime are the first fruits, the remainder will come in the harvests to follow. Latter harvests that the believers from this eon will play a part in bringing in during the next two ages, or eons.

Not all go to heaven, but ALL will be saved!

Not all go to heaven, but ALL will be saved!

Dear Friend, (An email response to a shocked, but confused friend)goodnewspostit

I just want to clarify what I believe as it is clear to me that many misunderstand me on an important point.  Let me clarify my belief with respect to who “goes to heaven”: because I do NOT believe that everyone “goes to Heaven”!

There is only one author, our apostle Paul, who writes anything about an expectation of “going to heaven”, or  to use a pattern of sound words “having a celestial allotment“.  It is important to note that there is a difference between the “Kingdom OF heaven” (A kingdom on earth) and the Kingdom IN heaven”. (A kingdom in the celestial realm)

Remember this:

“It will greatly help you to understand scripture if you note – no only what is spoken and written, but of whom and to whom, with what words, at what time, where, to what intent, with what circumstances, considering what goes before and what follows.”
–Miles Coverdale

With the exception of Paul’s letters (Acts -Philemon) all scripture is addressed to Israel and all promises and expectations recorded in all scriptures outside of Paul’s letters are given to Israel ONLY. As members of the Body of Christ, we have no part in Israel’s promises, and we were never under Israel’s law.  This includes the Levitical as well as the Mosaic Law, which includes the 10 commandments. (Something to remember, all scripture is for us, not all scripture is addressed TO us!

Even so, the following is absolutely true:

“All scripture is inspired by God, and is beneficial for teaching, for exposure, for correction, for discipline in righteousness, that the man of God may be equipped, fitted out for every good act.” 2 Tim 3:16-17

I DO believe in God’s judgments , something that “universalists” do not. All sin and evil will be dealt with justly. But Gods justice will be delivered with love.  Gods judgments, even better than those of any loving earthly father, are remedial in nature, they are never punitive. Those whose names are not found in the book of life at the Great White Thrown Judgment are cast into the lake of fire, yes.  The Lake of Fire is described in scripture as “the second death“.  The dead know nothing, they are in “the unseen” until they are brought back to life by God. (Ecclesiastes 9:5) Also of note here, if you pay attention to Gods word as you read about the White Throne Judgment, you will see that those judged are judged by their acts, not their faith, or lack of it.

Now as to the confusion…

Heaven is not the end of Gods’ plan, there is so much more! “Heaven and earth shall pass away” (Matt 24:35, Mar 13:31, Luk 21:33) and after we have completed our service “in heaven”, at the “consummation“, death (including the second death) will be abolished. (1 Corinthians 15:21-28) Leaving all who were dead alive again and subject to Christ.  This happens right before He (Christ) hands those who have been subjected to him (all of creation) over to God the Father, who then will become “ALL-IN-ALL”.  The body of Christ “spends two entire ages (1,000 year millennial age, and then the age during the new heavens and earth) in “heaven” being Gods chosen instruments for reconciling celestial beings back to Christ.  All Israel will be saved, but their expectation is earthly, ours is celestial.  Those who were judged at the great WHITE thrown judgment and cast into the lake of fire do not live again until after heaven and earth have passed away.

Rightly dividing the word:

(2 Tim 2:15)   – “Study to shew thyself approved”

Paul was given a completely different gospel.  “My gospel“, he calls it, and the Gospel of our (the body of Christ) salvation was given to Paul alone, it was given to him by our risen and glorified Savior after the cross and is distinctly different than the gospel given during Christ’s earthly ministry when the law was still in effect. Up until that time (Paul’s separation in Acts on the road to Damascus) the old covenant gospel was still in effect.

Paul is the only one who did not know Christ after the flesh and he was given a different gospel for us, the body.  Paul’s gospel is a gospel of Grace, apart from works whereas the gospel given to the 12 apostles (as James writes) involves faith AND works. So much confusion comes from trying to mix things that should not be mixed.  Here is why Paul tells us we need to rightly divide the truth. Truth for Israel (the bride), and the truth for us (the body).

Paul tells us we are to “rightly divide the word of truth“, to have “a pattern of sound words“, and to “distinguish things that differ” but in systematic Christianity the opposite is true, all truth is mixed together, unsound worldly unscriptural terms are used, and there is no distinguishing the things that differ. I guess I would say that most of Christendom is mythtaken, to put it nicely.  I know what you believe, friend, I too once believed what you did.

It is my prayer that God may grant you a willingness to set aside what you have been taught and have accepted as truth in order that

the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him“. (Eph1:17)

Now, I will attempt to address your short list of scripture verses thoughtfully before giving you my short list.

Philippians 2:9-11 (ESV)

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

First of all, the Greek work translated to “confess” in this passage is ἐξομολογέω (exomologeō) and it means “to agree fully: – confess, profess, promise.  It is much more than just admitting or confessing but a sincere profession of belief!  Every knee will bow and every tongue will profess Christ as Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

These verses, 9-11 are pretty clear, with no need for any commentary by me or anyone else, it is only if one does not believe what God has written that one must attempt to explain these verses away.

This Confession is the Work of God’s Spirit.

“Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Spirit” (I Corinthians 12:3).

Every man will say (with joy) that Jesus is Lord and receive the Holy Spirit according to Phil 2:9-11.

Now to address verses often presented to limit the work of Christ to only a few:

John 1:12

This was written to Israel, not us and has nothing to do with salvation but even if it did, on the day that is spoken of in Phil 2:9-11, the day every last tongue  has confessed Christ as Lord,  all will then be qualified anyway as Corinthians 12:3 affirms than none may confess Christ apart from the Holy spirit.

Romans 10:9

In the end, everyone will confess with their mouth and believe in Christ therefore they shall see salvation.  You will note that there is no time constraint here.  It is degenerate theology that teaches that this must happen during this lifetime.  In 1 Corinthians 15:23 it explains this, each in their own order or class.  We who believe in this lifetime are the first fruits and chosen to later help bring in the latter harvests.

1 John 5: 11 -12

The version quoted from is typically a paraphrase translation, not a literal translation and the word translated to eternal in this verse (αἰώνιος [aiōnios]) does not faithfully communicate what God has written in the inspired word.  This Greek word alone never means eternal or everlasting but a specific period of time with a beginning and an end.  In this case, “eonial life” refers to life during the two ages (eons) when Israel is ruling with Christ on earth, and we are “in heaven”.    I’ve spend countless hours studying this and could send you volumes of material in just this one word and how it is mistranslated in most (not all) English translations.  Most people are unwilling to go through the trouble of researching this, it takes a great deal of time and effort

More faithfully translated it reads:

“And this is the testimony that God gives us life eonian, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the [eonian] life; he who has not the Son of God has not the life.” (CLV)

This is true, but this is not the end.  If you do not have life, you are dead.  In the end (1 Corinthians 15:21-28) death will be abolished leaving nothing but life for those who missed out on “being in heaven”.  What happens after Heaven, when God is “all-in-all”?  Scripture does not tell us so we will just have to wait and see.  But one thing is for sure my friend, none of your friends or loved ones will be lost forever.  They may be lost for “the eons” that proceed this one, but in the end, all will be reconciled back to God the Father through the blood of our Savior.

Here is a very short list of scripture verses that clearly contradict what you have been taught by the christian religion: (May God be true, and every man a liar, especially those who have graduated from man-made seminary schools)

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 12:2, 3).

“All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee” (Psalm 22:27).

“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities” (Psalm 103:8-10).

“And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it” (Isaiah 2:2).

“Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; And all flesh shall see the salvation of God” (Luke 3:5,6).

“That was the true Light [Jesus Christ], which lighteth every man that cometh into the world” (John 1:9).

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto Him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world“ (John 1:29).

“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me” (John 12:32).

“Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began” (Acts 3:21).

“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by One, Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of One the free gift cameupon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous”(Romans 5:17-19).

“For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen” (Romans 11:30-36).

“For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at His coming. Then cometh the end, when He shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when He shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign, till He hath put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For He hath put all things under His feet. But when He saith all things are put under Him, it is manifest that He is excepted, which did put all things under Him. And when all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son also Himself be subject unto Him that put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.” (I Corinthians 15:21-28).

“For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead … To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation” (II Corinthians 5:14,19).

“And, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven” (Colossians 1:20).

“Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time” (I Timothy 2:6).

“For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, Who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe” (I Timothy 4:10).

“And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” (I John 2:2).

Regarding the teaching of eternal torment:

(God causing or allowing billions to suffer forever?  This verse alone disproves that doctrine of demons)

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away“ (Revelation 21:4).

Traditions of man say billions will cry out and be in pain (in ‘hell’) for all eternity, which clearly contradicts the above verse.

And I will leave you with this gem by our Apostle Paul:

“That in the dispensation of the fulness of times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him” (Ephesians 1:10).

In Christ,

Like People, Like Priest

Like People, Like Priest

“Like people, like priest” (Hosea 4:9).

smart-preachersWe have a similar statement in Isaiah 24:2, “as with the people so with the priest.” The point that the prophets are aiming at is that the priests, the religious teachers, will be like the people. This is a truth that is confirmed by other Scriptures, and is plainly apparent in the days in which we live.

“The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables” (II Timothy 4:3,4).

In this respect as in commercial affairs, “supply and demand are equal.” The people demand “smart” preachers who will “speak unto them smooth things,” and here you have them in great abundance in the nominal Christian ministry of today to supply this demand. If only a rich “hire”(Micah 3:11) and a good “pasture” (Jeremiah 23:1) be provided, the “clergy” will accommodate themselves in the unimportant matter of morals and religion to the fancy of the people. Truly, “like people, like priests.”
